"There was nothing new being released for quite awhile there, so in order to put something up on the screen, we decided to play some vintage ones," said Smith, who drew people back to the theater by rerunning some older films, such as Smokey and the Bandit, Stand By Me, the Back to the Future series, The Breakfast Club and Goonies, a surprise hit on its return run.

"It's been a difficult time, but we managed to do get through it," said Smith, who began showing movies again after the state's easing of pandemic restrictions on movie theaters in May.
